On August 13, 2020, Lieutenant-Commander Angus Fedoruk assumed command of Naval Training Development Centre (Pacific) from Commander Alain Sauvé in a ceremony presided over by Captain (Navy) Chris Peschke, Chief of Staff Maritime Forces Pacific.
Angus Fedoruk, AFNI, Chair of the BC Branch of The Nautical Institute conducted a presentation to a class of junior Officers in the Royal Canadian Navy, describing The Nautical Institute. The pillars of the navigation/deck Officers of the Royal Canadian Navy are Leader, Manager, Mariner, and Warrior. The presentation emphasized the common areas of the first three pillars, with a strong focus on Mariner - highlighting that the maritime domain has aspects that tie all mariners together.
The NI BC Branch hosted a webinar on the topic of seaborne motion compensation systems. Hosted by NI member Philip Woodcock, with co-hosts from the "Downtime Doctors," members were brought together through the Microsoft Teams platform for an explanation of the systems, followed by a short Question and Answer session. This interactive presentation was extremely informative and well-received by our members. Many thanks to Philip for organizing!

Hosted by NI member Kelly Larkin, with co-hosts Michael Kim and Alois Schonenberger, from Transport Canada, members were brought together through the Microsoft Teams platform for an explanation of the system, demonstration, and a short Question and Answer session. An amazing two days of informative presentations, interactive Q&A sessions, and panel discussions, with a diverse set of speakers and participants including Canadian and international stakeholders in industry, environmental organizations, governmental transport authorities, coast guards, consultants, and technology providers.
The NI BC Branch held an afternoon Technical Seminar in Sidney, BC, Canada. The event was open to Nautical Institute Members and interested Non-Members to learn more about the variety of work and areas of expertise of branch members. See "Downloads" for a full event description.
The NI BC Branch participated in a tour of MV Asterix, at Ogden Point in Victoria. MV Asterix is the vessel recently converted to act as a replenishment ship, and leased to the Canadian Government to support Canadian Navy operations.
